An even simpler way to find the mean is by using modular arithmetic. In this method, you simply divide all the data points into two groups, one for the positive numbers and one for the negative ones. You can then compare the differences and see which group is larger. Of course, the most important aspect of this is that it provides a sense of the average size of the data set. 

The arithmetic-geometric means may be more complicated, but they do the same thing, which is not always the case. Arithmetic means are not only easy to calculate, but they are often the quickest as well. However, they can be susceptible to being overly affected by material outliers or extreme numbers from outside of the data set. 

Finally, you can calculate the mean using a sample mean. This is the average of a collection of values, and it can be used for calculating the standard deviation, variance, and central tendency. Often, you will need to use several samples to determine the true value of a data set. 

Finding the means of a set of numbers is a simple task. When you’re done, you’ll have a basic understanding of the difference between the arithmetic mean and the geometric mean. Those three are the most common types of means, but you’ll encounter many more in your mathematics classes.
