What Grade Do You Take Algebra 2?

If you are interested in getting into a college with a STEM degree, you might be wondering what grade you take in algebra 2. The reason you need algebra 2 is that it is a prerequisite for some of the other higher-level math classes that you’ll want to take. Most colleges require that students have taken this course. You’ll also need to get a Regents exam for it. It can be tough to pass the Algebra 2 Regents exam, but it is not impossible.

Getting an Algebra 2 Regents score of at least 3 or higher is a good way to start. If you fail, you can retake the exam later in the year. When you do, the raw score is converted to a final grade using state-issued conversion charts. A final grade of 90 or more is considered a pass.

An Algebra 2 exam has four sections. The first section has 24 multiple-choice questions. Each question is worth two credits. There are also three constructed response sections. In addition to the multiple-choice questions, the course covers graphing functions, quadratic equations, polynomials, and matrices.

The second section of the exam has eight questions. These questions are also worth two credits each. However, it is significantly harder than the first section. Part III of the exam has four questions, each worth four credits. Finally, there is a fourth section with one question worth six total credits.

Algebra 2 is generally taught in the 10th and 11th grades. Typically, this is because students will have to take this class to graduate high school. For some schools, however, it is offered in the 7th grade. Students who do well in the course can finish it in the eighth grade. Other students begin this course in the ninth grade.

The order in which the math courses are taken can vary from school to school. But most schools follow a fairly consistent sequence. Generally, a student will take Geometry in the tenth or eleventh grade, then Algebra 2 in the twelfth. Many students have trouble in both, though.

To be successful in the class, it is important that you work hard. You must be able to work through all the concepts and make connections. Having a good textbook and extra practice can help you succeed. Also, it is important to work with a study group, a tutor, or a math study lab.

Some schools also offer an integrated math program. This allows students to learn geometry over three years instead of just one. Another option is to take precalculus instead of algebra. Even if the school offers both, it is best to take the algebra course before precalculus.

Although many students resent taking algebra in high school, the course is required for most colleges. The skills you learn in the course will be helpful when you go to college and in your everyday life. And you’ll find that the algebra course is easier than the geometry class you had to take.
